Lore

Abyssal monsters possess indescribably horrific forms. These demonic creatures were encountered during the Oniyx expedition, a horrifying venture into the depths of the temple of Zaar'Phahl in Shal'Zaar. In the wake of the horrors the researchers lived through within the Abyss, a painting was made, thus depicting the dread this expedition had aroused. It stands as a warning against the living nightmares that might one day surface. Dating from the Age of the Deities, it has become, in the Prosperous Era, a religious symbol for the tribes of Shal'Zaar. Historically, Zafren was a spice known in ancient Shal'Zaar, nicknamed “red gold.” Today, it is an entity as feared as it is respected in tribal beliefs: “Give to the fox Zafren of the thousand gazes before it is too late.”
